Astyanax

A side-scrolling arcade action game released by Jaleco in 1989, known in Japan as The Lord of King. Ordinary high schooler Astyanax is transported to the fantasy realm of Remlia, where he wields the divine battle-axe Bash to rescue Princess Rosebud from the demon lord Blackhorn. Combat features a charge mechanic that, when fully powered, releases an energy slash from the blade. Players can also cast three types of magic — Bind, Blast, and Bolt. The game includes cinematic cutscenes between stages set against a medieval fantasy backdrop. It was later ported to the NES by Aicom with significant revisions to the design.
