Chinese Chess

This NES title faithfully recreates the ancient strategy board game of Chinese Chess (Xiangqi). Thirty-two pieces across red and black sides follow traditional rules governing the General, Advisors, Elephants, Horses, Chariots, Cannons, and Soldiers, with victory achieved by checkmating the opponent's king. The game offers both human-vs-CPU and two-player modes, with the CPU spanning multiple difficulty levels to suit players of varying skill. The top-down board view uses the D-pad to move a cursor and place pieces, and includes undo, save, and hint options. One of the few authentic Chinese-style strategy board games on early home consoles, it remains a clean and accessible adaptation of the classic game.
