F1 Race

Published by Nintendo in 1984, F1 Race is one of the earliest racing titles on the Famicom. Players pilot a Formula 1 car from a top-down vertically scrolling perspective, navigating bends, straights, and rival vehicles while hitting checkpoints to keep the timer alive. Controls are minimal: A to accelerate, B to brake, and the D-pad to change lanes and overtake. Clipping another car or going off-track triggers a tire blowout that costs precious seconds. Four circuits of increasing difficulty await, each raising opponent speed and count. Simple yet addictive, F1 Race helped establish the template for early home console racing games.
