Field Combat

Originally a 1985 Jaleco arcade title later ported to the NES, Field Combat is a vertically scrolling shooter in which a lone rifleman advances deep into enemy territory on foot, taking on tanks, armored vehicles, and fighter planes. The standout mechanic is vehicle capture: after disabling an enemy craft, the player can board and pilot it for significantly boosted firepower — but each vehicle must be returned to the home base by the end of the stage to count toward the mission score. Terrain shifts through jungle, river, and enemy-base sections, culminating in a push to seize the enemy headquarters. Its accessible gameplay and vehicle-boarding system make it a notable early entry in the military-themed shooter genre.
