The NES port of Irem's 1990 arcade game, published by Jaleco in 1991 under the Japanese title Daiku no Gen-san. Players control Gen-san, an Edo-era carpenter who fights back against the corrupt Rusty Nailers construction company threatening to demolish his family home. Armed with an oversized wooden mallet, he smashes through laborers, machines, and monsters across construction sites, factories, streets, and corporate headquarters. The gameplay is punchy and fast-paced, with a humorous cartoon style, a lovable working-class hero, and catchy stage BGMs. The series spawned multiple arcade and handheld sequels, cementing Gen-san as one of Irem's most beloved mascots.
