Insector X

Taito's 1989 horizontal-scrolling shoot-'em-up, ported to the NES by Hot-B in 1990. Players control a young gunner with a beam rifle, riding a flying rig through forests, caverns, and underground fortresses overrun by gigantic mutant insects. Enemies include oversized beetles, dragonflies, scorpions, and spiders, with massive screen-filling bosses. The insect theme, biomechanical visual design, and brisk bullet patterns gave the game a distinctive identity among its contemporaries. The NES version adds exclusive stages and rebalanced weaponry not present in the original arcade release.
