Jackal

Originally an arcade release by Konami in 1986 and ported to the Famicom in 1988, Jackal is a top-down jeep shooter playable by up to two players cooperatively. Players drive a military jeep deep into enemy territory, rescuing imprisoned POWs and escorting them to helicopter extraction points. The primary weapon fires forward in a fixed arc, while a secondary launcher lobs grenades or missiles to handle threats on the flanks and rear. Each stage concludes with a massive boss encounter — tanks, warships, and ultimately the enemy fortress itself. A standout in cooperative vehicle shooters, Jackal's relentless pace and sheer firepower set it well apart from contemporaries in the genre.
