Journey to the West

Journey to the West is an unlicensed Famicom platformer developed by Chengdu Taijing Dadong Computer Company and published under the Micro Genius label in 1994. Based on the beloved Chinese classic novel of the same name, players control Sun Wukong and other iconic characters on their westward pilgrimage to retrieve the Buddhist scriptures, battling demons and monsters across a series of 2D side-scrolling stages. The game adapts memorable scenes and characters from the source material into platformer gameplay, making it a notable example of Chinese developers representing traditional culture on the Famicom. A sequel followed in 1996.
