Live A Live

Live A Live is an original RPG released by Square in 1994 for the Super Famicom. The game comprises seven stand-alone chapters spanning vastly different eras: the prehistoric age, ancient China's kung fu world, Bakumatsu Japan, the Wild West, a modern fighting tournament, the near future, and the far future — each with its own protagonist, gameplay mechanics, and narrative tone. Character designs were contributed by acclaimed manga artists including Gosho Aoyama and Kazuhiko Shimamoto. Combat employs a grid-based tactical turn-based system. A final chapter unites all storylines to reveal a fateful confrontation across the ages, giving Live A Live a narrative structure unlike any other JRPG.
