Mappy

A Namco arcade classic from 1983, ported to the Famicom in 1984. Players control Mappy, a police mouse on a mission to recover stolen loot from the Mewkies gang and their boss Goro inside a six-story thieves' hideout. Unable to jump, Mappy navigates the floors via trampolines scattered between levels, which break after repeated use; doors can be flung open to send pursuing cats flying. Stages are packed with bonus items, hidden scoring opportunities, and bell traps. Its brisk pacing and catchy music established Mappy as a landmark of early arcade platformers, and the character has made frequent cameo appearances across Namco's catalog ever since.
