Star Soldier

Star Soldier is a vertical-scrolling shooter developed by Hudson Soft and released for the Famicom in 1986, spanning sixteen stages. Players pilot a combat spacecraft against waves of alien invaders, collecting power-ups to boost firepower, with alternating two-player support. Beyond the game itself, Star Soldier became culturally significant in Japan as the centerpiece of Hudson's National Caravan — a nationwide touring competition that challenged players to rack up the highest score possible within a strict time limit. The event turned the game into a touchstone of 1980s Japanese gaming culture and helped establish the competitive high-score scene on the Famicom.
