The Punisher

Developed by Beam Software and published by LJN in 1990, The Punisher is a rare over-the-shoulder rail shooter on the NES starring Marvel Comics' Frank Castle. Players move through various New York City environments, mowing down waves of thugs and confronting bosses including Assassin, Jigsaw, and Colonel Kryg — with the crime lord Kingpin serving as the final boss. The A button fires, B throws grenades, and weapon pickups such as rocket launchers and machine guns supplement the arsenal alongside body armor for extra protection. Briskly paced and faithful to the source material, it stands as one of the better licensed games on the platform.
