Ice Climber

A Famicom platformer from Nintendo released in 1985, designed by Kazuaki Morita. Eskimo siblings Popo and Nana wield wooden mallets to smash through ice blocks and scale eight snowy mountain peaks, reclaiming vegetables stolen by a giant condor. Along the way they must dodge polar bears, seals, and Topis — small creatures that repair broken ice floors. Catching the condor at the summit of each stage earns bonus points. The game supports two-player simultaneous play, letting the siblings cooperate or compete against each other. Popo and Nana later rose to wider fame through their appearances in the Super Smash Bros. series.
