Alcahest

An action RPG developed exclusively for the Super Famicom by HAL Laboratory in 1993, Alcahest was released only in Japan. Players control the hero Alcion alongside eight elemental spirit companions, each granting a distinct elemental attack. Swapping between spirits based on enemy weaknesses is central to success. The game uses a top-down perspective and is praised for its fluid action combat and polished Super Famicom visuals, blending action and strategic thinking in equal measure. Despite flying largely under the radar outside Japan, Alcahest has earned a devoted following and a strong reputation as one of the finest hidden gems on the Super Famicom.
