Blaster Master

Released by Sunsoft in 1988 for the NES, Blaster Master is celebrated for its inventive dual-gameplay design. After his pet frog tumbles into a radioactive underground world, young Jason follows and discovers the powerful combat vehicle SOPHIA III. Players drive the tank through side-scrolling underground labyrinths, then switch to a top-down on-foot shooter perspective when entering enemy bases. Defeating bosses yields new upgrades for the tank. The seamless interplay between these two gameplay modes is cleverly executed, creating a sense of scale and variety that set Blaster Master apart as one of the most creative action games on the NES.
