Cobra Command

Released by Data East in 1988, Cobra Command is a helicopter action game for the NES. Players pilot an armed helicopter on a hostage rescue mission across varied battlefields including jungles and open seas. Unlike many shooters, the game has no auto-scrolling — players must actively explore the map to locate and free all captive hostages. The helicopter fires bullets forward and launches missiles at a downward angle, and landing at designated spots allows upgrades to weaponry and speed. Enemies range from tanks and gun emplacements to fighter jets, making each stage a tense balancing act between neutralizing threats and safeguarding the hostages.
