Darkman

Ocean Software's 1991 NES side-scrolling action game, adapted from Sam Raimi's 1990 film. Players control disfigured scientist Peyton Westlake, who exploits unstable synthetic skin to impersonate various identities within a 99-minute window while hunting crime boss Robert Durant for revenge. The game alternates between two stage types: side-scrolling action levels where Westlake fights bare-handed or with pipes and scales high-rise buildings, and vehicle stages where he pursues enemies by helicopter or car. Story beats unfold through comic-strip panel cutscenes. With a gloomy visual palette and tense soundtrack, Darkman successfully transplants the film's brooding dark-superhero atmosphere onto the 8-bit platform.
