Front Mission

Front Mission is a tactical RPG released by Square for the Super Nintendo in 1995. Set in a near-future world of geopolitical tension, players command squads of pilots operating giant humanoid mechs known as Wanzers through turn-based campaigns. The story follows pilot Hermann Caster, whose investigation into his fiancée's death draws him into a sweeping conspiracy. The battle system allows players to deal independent damage to individual mech components — body, arms, legs, and weapons — enabling deep customization of each unit's loadout. This granular approach to strategy made Front Mission one of the most mechanically sophisticated and enduring tactical RPGs on the Super Nintendo.
