The game that launched the Harvest Moon series, developed by Pack-In-Video for the Super Famicom. Players inherit their grandfather's neglected farm and have three in-game years to clear the land, grow seasonal crops, and raise cattle, sheep, and chickens while restoring the farm's facilities. Time management, social interaction, and romance are all woven in — players can forge friendships with the townspeople or court a partner and marry. The four seasons cycle naturally, directly dictating which crops can be grown, while the unhurried pastoral rhythm gives the whole experience a profoundly relaxing quality. The game established the core formula the series has refined for decades.
