Mad City

Known internationally as The Adventures of Bayou Billy, this 1988 Konami title follows Billy, a rugged Louisiana swamp man whose girlfriend Annabelle has been kidnapped by mob boss Gordon. To rescue her, Billy fights through crocodile-infested wetlands across three distinct gameplay styles: side-scrolling brawler combat using fists, clubs, knives, and firearms; a vehicular stage where he pursues enemy cars in a jeep; and first-person light-gun shooting sections also playable with a standard controller. The Famicom version is notoriously harder than its overseas counterpart, with enemies boasting far greater health and attack power. The swamp setting and varied gameplay remain its most distinctive hallmarks.
