About this game
Published by Kawada and Kadokawa on the Famicom in 1986, this is a digital adaptation of the classic board game Othello (Reversi). On an 8×8 grid, two players alternate placing pieces; any opponent's pieces flanked between two of your own are flipped to your color, and the player holding the most pieces at the end wins. The Famicom version offers single-player versus CPU, two-player versus, and selectable difficulty levels, with the AI employing fundamental strategies such as corner occupation and mobility control. Easy to learn yet genuinely deep to master, Othello is a quintessential abstract strategy game, and this port brought it into living rooms far beyond the tabletop.
