Populous 2: Trials of the Olympian Gods, released by Bullfrog in 1991, casts the player as a demi-god son of Zeus, fighting through thousands of battles overseen by Hera, Poseidon, Hades, and other Olympian deities to ultimately claim a seat on Mount Olympus. The miracle system expands to over 30 powers across four elemental schools—fire, water, earth, and wind—enabling dramatic cascading effects such as tornadoes, volcanic eruptions, and the sinking of Atlantis. Terrain sculpting remains the strategic core, now complemented by hero units and a technology progression system that adds further depth. Significantly improved VGA visuals and a full musical score represent a major leap over the original, earning it a reputation as the gameplay peak of the series.
