Saiyuuki World

Saiyuuki World is an action RPG released by Jaleco for the Famicom in 1988, set in the world of the Chinese literary classic Journey to the West. Players control Zhu Bajie — known as Pigsy in Western adaptations — through side-scrolling stages, defeating enemies to earn coins and spending them in shops on weapons, armor, and items before taking on demon bosses. The game is built on the framework of Wonder Boy, blending platform jumping with light RPG progression, all repackaged with Journey to the West characters and scenery. It stands as one of the earliest Famicom action games to draw from Chinese classical literature.
