The Amazon Trail

A spiritual successor to The Oregon Trail, developed by MECC as an educational adventure game aimed at younger players. Players paddle a canoe upriver along the Amazon, navigating white-water rapids while fishing, photographing wildlife, and interacting with indigenous communities, all while absorbing knowledge about the Amazon rainforest's ecosystem and South American indigenous cultures. Geography, history, and natural science are woven organically into the interactive expedition. With its encyclopedic approach to content delivery, the game saw wide adoption in American elementary and middle school classrooms throughout the 1990s.
