About this game
Developed by Westwood Studios and published by Virgin Interactive in 1994, The Lion King is a side-scrolling action platformer for the SNES based on the Disney animated film. Players first guide young Simba through more than ten levels spanning the African savanna, jungle, and elephant graveyard, using his roar to summon insects and bouncing off branches; later they take control of the full-grown lion, whose powerful roar and claw attacks help relive Mufasa's death and Scar's coup before the climactic confrontation on Pride Rock. The animation rivals the film in quality, but the game is notoriously difficult — none more so than the early wildebeest stampede level, which became infamous among players.
