Valis: The Fantasm Soldier

An NES port of the side-scrolling action game developed by Telenet Japan. The protagonist, Yuko, is an ordinary high school girl who is chosen to become the Fantasm Soldier, wielding the sacred sword Valis across two realms — the real world and the phantom demon dimension — to stop the Demon King from conquering humanity. Gameplay revolves around sword combat, supplemented by collectible magic abilities for ranged attacks. Animated story cutscenes and a female lead were rarities in NES action games, helping establish the series' distinctive girl-fantasy identity.
