SNK's 1994 Neo Geo sequel rewinds the clock to South Town before the events of Fatal Fury. Twelve fighters — returning stars Ryo, Robert, and Yuri alongside newcomers including Eiji Kisaragi, Temjin, and Jack Turner — compete in the inaugural The King of Fighters tournament, hosted by Mr. Big with Geese Howard lurking as the final boss. The game retains the spirit gauge and super special moves from its predecessor while adding short combo strings and a taunt command that drains the opponent's gauge. Art of Fighting 2 formally stitches the series into the shared timeline that unifies Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters.
