Ever Quest

Ever Quest is an RPG released by SNK in 1989 for the NES, adapted from Kyokutei Bakin's epic Edo-period novel Nansō Satomi Hakkenden. Players choose one of eight Dog Warriors to begin their journey, scouring the land for eight scattered orbs inscribed with Confucian virtues — benevolence, righteousness, propriety, and wisdom, among others — before uniting the full group to repel the vengeful spirit of Tamazusa. The game features traditional turn-based combat; the chosen protagonist shapes the story's direction and the order in which companions join, making thorough exploration and steady leveling essential to completing the quest.
